Donguri Republic -- The Official Merchandise Store of Studio Ghibli

     Due to my sister’s graduation exhibition, I finally had a chance to visit Donguri Republic(どんぐり共和国), the official merchandise store of Studio Ghibli, in Taipei in person! There are over 30 Donguri Republic branches all over Japan and the one in Hsinyi district, Taipei is the first branch in Taiwan and also the largest branch(about 293 square meters) in the world.

     Donguri Republic is located on the first basement of a mall called ATT 4 FUN. As soon as you arrive B1, you can see a giant Totoro, which is the landmark of Donguri Republic. Many people wait in line here to take a photo with this giant Totoro

     Near the Totoro stands another character from My Neighbor Totoro – Catbus! The destination on Catbus’ forehead shows “信義(Hsinyi),” which shows its uniqueness for Hsinyi branch

     Before entering the store, there is a giant tree in which lies a sleeping Totoro.

     After you have taken photos to your heart’s content, countless Ghibli official merchandises are here waiting for you to take them home. With the theme songs of Ghibli movies played in the store and the great variety kinds of products from different movies, it’s totally impossible to resist your desire, going home with nothing!

     ↑Stuffed animals! I wanted to buy one and put it on my bed but didn’t have enough budget……

     ↑Merchandises of Castle in the Sky. The crystal amulet is said to be voice-controlled by the destructive spell “BARUSU!”

     ↑Tiny puppets for fingers or pens. Almost every character you can think of is there and since they are cheap(less than 100 NTD), they are suitable souvenirs to buy if you don’t want to spend so much.

    　↑Stationery and small accessories area. It’s usually crowded here because the products in this area are adorable and relatively affordable.

     In the store, you can also see the elaborated decorations like the movie posters on the wall and even movies playing on a TV!

     On this bookshelf are books about the settings of Ghibli movies and comic versions of Ghibli movies. You definitely can’t miss that as a fan of Studio Ghibli!

     This is what I finally bought – a random badge pack.(100NTD) I chose this because I liked the feeling of gambling, not knowing if I could get the badge I wanted. The badge I got was the blue Howl’s Moving Castle on on the bottom line. Not bad!

     The whole experience I got in Donguri Republic was amazing. The vivid exhibition, bright and delightful atmosphere and cool merchandises……You can experience all of them for free!(except if you want to take them home lol) If you are a fan of Studio Ghibli, I recommend you to visit Donguri Republic very much!
